Top 3 Things to Do in Chicago

Chicago is one of the United States’ most bustling cities. Known for deep-dish pizza, performance arts and “the bean”, this awesome city is home to plenty to see and do. Over the course of my 5-day trip in February, I found myself drawn most heavily to the Willis Tower, Cloud Gate (“the Bean”) and a hidden gem located outside of Chicago’s downtown. Keep reading for insights on where to stay, what to eat, and where to go in Chicago.

Willis Tower – Chicago’s tallest building with spectacular views of the city

View from one of the glass boxes

This 110-story tall building is located in Chicago’s downtown. Home to the best views of the city, it is famed for enclosed glass boxes where you can take pictures while seeing the ground below you! These photos turn out best when taken at night, but fair warning: It can be crowded so patience is needed to really enjoy the experience.

Upon entering the exhibit, you get an in-depth glimpse of Chicago’s food, music, and cultural history.

Pro Tip: Find a comfortable spot at the top of the Willis Tower in one of the side window areas before entering the timed glass window areas. You’ll still be able to get some photos of the killer views in a less pressurized or timed situation, but be sure to save that “must take” selfie for the glass boxes.

Cloud Gate or The “Bean” – Located in Millennium Park with lots of places to wander

The “Bean”

Cloud Gate is located near Chicago’s Museum campus (if you’re in for a lengthy brisk walk). Here, you’ll find what is affectionately called “the Bean”. This reflective metallic structure is a fun Chicago landmark. During my time at Cloud Gate, Ukraine support was in full fledge. At the time of writing this piece, Russia had recently invaded and begun bombing Ukraine, so many Chicagoans / Americans / global citizens protested these violent acts (including myself) at “the Bean” and other locations.

Garfield Conservatory – a magic escape from downtown Chicago

Garfield Conservatory

This beautiful plant sanctuary was the highlight of my time in Chicago. Lesser known to some, this tranquil spot deserves time in your next Chicago itinerary. The Garfield Conservatory is one of the largest greenhouses in the United States. Admission tickets are required in addition to a suggestion donation of $5-$20 based on ability.

Stunning view of the conservatory

In conclusion, there you have it: 3 of the top things to do in Chicago! From the Willis Tower to the Garfield Conservatory, Chicago will surely be a city to remember!
