Explore the bakeries for breakfast
Today, I sampled two of the many highly-rated bakeries in Reykjavik. I started out near Hallgrimskirkja and went to Brauð & Co. Following this, I checked out my personal favorite Sandholt.
Brauð & Co is a small bakery that opens most days at 7 AM for the early birds. This wonderful bakery is home to a delicious raspberry and vanilla pastry that is to die for (see photo below)! However, seating is limited to one table, so come prepared to brace to cold and find a spot outdoors on one of the nearby benches. Additionally, at the time I went they were only serving coffee, but sparkling water and orange juice were also available upon request.

Following breakfast, I went onto breakfast 2.0 at Sandholt, which opens at 7:30 AM on most days. This bakery is hopping! From the moment I stepped in the door to the moment I left to find a bench outside, this place was busy but in the best way possible. There were even two lines. One for ordering and one for finding a table. Here, I got an amazing caramel cinnamon bun for about ~495 ISK.

Find Rainbow street
After breakfast, it’s time for some exploration! Get on your walking shoes and leave Sandholt with the intention of finding the famous Rainbow road. In true LGBTQ+ Icelandic spirit, this road is meant to celebrate diversity and joy.

Stop for a hot dog at Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur
First introduced to me by an Icelandic woman who showed me around the first day, Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur is a must try! In Iceland, hot dogs come loaded with ketchup, mustard, a type of relish, and onions (both fried and raw). While these hot dog stands are scattered throughout the city, the most popular one is located in the heart of downtown due to proximity to main attractions.

Visit Tjörnin
After a snack, it will be time to head to the lake! While it was frozen during my visit, there was a section with ducks and other birds near the south end. Located along a small trail was a green and gray church that gave a unique glimpse into Icelandic architecture. Here, you can stop to read a book on a warm day or walk around the lake.

Roam the Icelandic Phallological Museum
Now for the piece de resistance, the Phallological Museum or the penis museum is home to hundreds of varieties of penises! From whales to mice to bears, they have a huge diversity of phalluses. This quirky museum is also a fun place to stay dry on a rainy or snowy day and provides a great spot for a snack. The bar has both hot drinks, snacks, and other items, but my favorite were the penis shaped waffles.

So, there you have it! 5 additional things to do and see in Reykjavik, Iceland. From penises to pastries, there are lots of things to check out.
