3 Places for Cheap Eats in Reykjavik

Finding cheap eats is one of my favorite things to do in a new city, especially an expensive one! The city of Reykjavik is adorable, colorful, but oh so costly! A pastry from my favorite shop (Sandholt) that you can read about in an earlier article runs about $3 USD 495 ISK). In contrast, you can obtain a full meal from the below places for under $10 USD. That’s correct! These places are delicious, but perhaps more importantly cheap as well.

Krambúð

The first mention is actually a grocery store that kind of reminds me of a luxury 7-11, but I mention it due to its proximity to Hallgrímskirkja, the Icelandic famous church. This store has a myriad of sandwiches, salads, and ready-to-eat hot foods. For reference, I was able to get a large sub-style sandwich with cheese and meat along with a soda for 1050 ISK ($8 USD). Located along Skólavörðustígur on the left-hand side as you exit the church, this sweet little spot is also near some benches for you to sit and enjoy your snacks / meal.

Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur – Tryggvagata

This amazing hot dog stand is to die for! I was able to get a hot dog and a coke for 850 ISK or about $6 USD, what a steal! This stand is located near the Icelandic Phallological Museum past Harpa Concert Hall, which is worth checking out if you have time. These hot dogs are famous in Iceland for being some of the best one can find. Loaded with ketchup, mustard, onions, fried onions and a secret sauce, these are delicious and well-worth seeking out one of the local stands. I have included the address to the one located in the heart of Reykjavik’s center.

Noodle Station

This noodle station is probably one of the cheapest options in terms of sit down restaurants that you can find in Reykjavik. Your options range from a vegetarian noodle option to a chicken option, priced accordingly ranging from ~1100 ISK to ~1800 ISK ($8-14).
