Explore Charlotte Amalie and the Best Viewpoints in St. Thomas

Originally, I was drawn to the island after hearing stories from my grandmother. She spent time as a former immigration officer on cruise ships that would come into the port of Saint Thomas. After one visit, I found myself hooked on the beauty of this island and neighboring USVI’s. I cannot wait to come back and I hope to share with you some of the reasons as to why!

St. Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) is often considered a major cruise port for ships sailing the Caribbean. While I didn’t visit on a cruise, I found this island to be wonderful. I’d like to share some of the highlights with you for your next trip.

Charlotte Amalie

The center of Charlotte Amalie is located closest to the cruise port. It is home to splendid architecture, shops, places to eat, and a fare number of bars. The bars are known to serve frozen cocktails.

The island is famous for the banana daiquiri, so try one if you get the chance!

99 Steps

Not far from the town of Charlotte Amalie is 99 Steps. This landmark is a fun small hike suitable for families and solo travelers alike. The views are great and the Steps pass through lush greenery, which make for a fun island experience.

Viewpoints on St. Thomas

There are also many viewpoints on the island of St. Thomas. I will name two examples of my favorites, but there are countless others that are worth researching and checking out.

The first one is Charlotte Amalie Overlook. Can you see yourself here?

The second is Drake’s Seat, a noteworthy landmark on the island.

Red Hook

A final mention goes to Red Hook. Red Hook is mostly known for a local island feel and its transport options. As a way to get to other parts of the Caribbean, this location is noteworthy, but it is well-worth a stop in its own right.Ā

Enjoy your trip! -K
