Mostar is a city in Bosnia and Herzegovina that is lovely. Due to its strong Turkish influence from its occupation by the Ottoman empire, the architecture and culture is rich. My first full day there was spent wandering and I eventually made it to ‘Lovely Bosnian House’. The accommodation truly lives up to its name featuring old architecture similar to that of the Dervish house in Bladgaj. This local monastery called Bladgaj Tekke is a must-see.

Currently (at the time of writing this), I’m sitting on a rock overlooking the Buna river.
It’s stunning, not overcrowded, and traditional. Once I’m back in town, I will likely grab lunch. I will try to find that delicious local restaurant that I had moussaka (also musaka – see below) from earlier in the week. The dish is traditionally made with eggplant, ground meat (beef most commonly) and cheese- it’s delicious!
Note: If you find this place, please let me know! I could not locate this wonderful place of which I am sure there are actually many!

When in Mostar, check out the Old Bridge as well as the Crooked Bridge. The Biscevic House is also worth a visit!
The below photo is of the Old Bridge in Mostar. People often jump off of it into the water for a swim during summers. That said, I would be too afraid of the height of the bridge to do much beyond watch.

I have outlined some of the things I love about Mostar. At the time of writing this article (drafted back in late 2018), Mostar had not yet gained a lot of recognition in terms of tourism. I hope this changes for the better as this is a beautiful, historical, and off-the-beaten path destination in the Balkans!
